Submissions, Rejections… and Acceptances

Submissions, Rejections… and Acceptances

It’s bravery, hope, sadness and glee… all wrapped up in a neat little package.

And do you know what I did despite receiving a rejection letter this week? I pushed on. In the wake of that rejection, I went onto receive three more acceptances, which pushes my total for the year up to 18! Not bad considering.

And that rejected story? Well… it’ll be fleshed out to a more respectable (novel) size and published.

So, all is not lost.

Hello, Autumn

33026622_10156427183904439_6032754507555799040_o

Yes… it’s March 21st, which means Autumn can officially start… in the Southern Hemisphere, that is. The previous twenty-one days were just a warm up… seeings as in Oz the weather can never make up its mind. I’m really over Summer, if you can’t tell.

This post is kind of two-fold today, as there’s been quite a lot going on in the niche I carved out for myself in the writing world, as small as it is now, I’m hopeful it’s going to grow into something huge. A girl can dream, right?

organic-inkTwo days ago, I received an acceptance for my poem, Petals, that I submitted two weeks prior and kept it completely under wraps. I truly believed I sucked at poetry, because I don’t really get how to write it. Like, I’ve always felt there’s a right way and a wrong way to write poetry and its instilled in me this immense fear of getting it wrong. So, I’ve totally just steered clear of it. Yeah, so I totally jumped out of my comfort zone for this submission and its surprisingly paid off. So, that of course lead to me submitting another poem, because I hate odd numbers… suffice to say, my second poem, Darkness, will also be appearing in the Dragon Soul Press anthology, Organic Ink, Volume One. Which will be published later this year. I can’t wait!

In other news, I’ve also submitted a drabble to another online only publication. This time it’s for Black Hare Press. I’m crossing my fingers (and toes) that I hear back soon.

Finally, I’ve also done a soft launch of my Patreon, which I’ve been debating for a long while whether to launch and I decided last night to just go ahead and do it… so, if there’s any interest at all, I’d be eternally grateful. There’s three tiers at the moment but I’m hoping to find news ways to give back to anyone who champions my cause, no matter how small, when time permits. If you would like to chip in, the link is HERE.

I truly hope that the Equinox finds you well. I really do love this time of year.

Beauty

My short story, Beauty is being published in Iron Faerie Publishing‘s forthcoming anthology, Fable.

It’s a retelling of the Beauty and the Beast fairytale, which was first recorded by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve and published in 1740.

I’ll share more as soon as I’m able.

Bite Sized

witches_by_eternal_dream_art-d6y7dk6

As I’ve stated in a previous post, several of my drabbles are being published in Blood Song Books anthology, Curses & Cauldrons. And, now that I’ve signed the contract, I decided to share a little update with you all, because I not only have the four drabbles previously mentioned, but four others as well. Bringing the total up to eight. They are listed below, in order of acceptance. They are:

CandC-MINI

  • Down the Rabbit Hole – is a story about a girl who takes poison from a witch.
  • The Keeper – is a retelling of the story of Cerridwen.
  • Mark of the Witch (previously titled, The Witch’s Mark) – is a story about a family of witches.
  • Undersea – is a story about a sea witch.
  • Excalibur – is a story about Morgan le Faye and the magic of Excalibur.
  • Harm None – is the story of a modern day witch performing a binding spell.
  • Red As Blood – is a retelling of the story of Snow White with a twist.
  • Bad Girls – is a story of three modern day witches about to be burned at the stake.

In case you haven’t already guessed the theme of the anthology is witches, and I’m immensely proud of these eight little stories. Writing drabbles and keeping to the strict, 100 word only caveat, is not always easy, especially when you have to tell a story and have it make sense. I’ll be sure to keep you posted once this anthology hits shelves, I’m sure it’s going to be epic.

Lost, a Collection of Short Stories

I told you good things were on the horizon, didn’t I?

Lost, is a collection of my own short stories. Within the pages you’ll find every story I’ve ever had published in the last eight years, plus a few new ones.

Title: Lost
Genre: Paranormal Fantasy
Release date: 28 February 2019
Cover designer: Nicky Montgomery
Blurb: Where will you go once you are lost?

Who will you seek?

What will you find, awaiting you in the shadows?

Enter… if you dare, into worlds where faeries, werewolves, vampires, gods, angels and demons collide.

Story Submissions

I’ve been writing more and submitting a lot of stories this month and it seems to be paying off.

I received an acceptance email from Blood Song Books in my inbox for four of my drabbles to appear in their upcoming anthology, Curses and Cauldrons.

The stories are: Down the Rabbit Hole, The Keeper, The Witches Mark & Undersea.

Each is just 100 words but packs a punch in their own way I think.

I can’t wait to see this anthology in print. There’s nothing better than holding a copy of a book that has your work inside.

New Years Eve

So, as 2018 comes to a close it brings with it an acceptance. My Drabble WINTER was accepted into Trembling With Fear and will be published sometime in the New Year.

The signed contract was sent off today, so now I just wait.

And… in other writing news, I’m almost finished with my third contest entry and have a flash fiction story half done. I’m stepping out of my comfort zone a little in December and I think it’s paying off.

Bring on 2019 and more writing and submissions.

I can’t wait!

Oh and if anyone is looking for submission opportunities check out Iron Faerie Publishing‘s website for more details.

Happy New Year!

The Wild Hunt

7EDC731B-89DA-4022-B255-27365E3EAB27

With 24 hours until the Twisted II Release Party, I thought I’d share with you the opening to my short story, The Wild Hunt. It appears in the anthology and ties into the world of my novels in the Eldritch Series.

If you like Celtic Mythology then I hope you’ll enjoy my tale as it’s steeped quite heavily in myth.

Here it is…

The wildwood swelled before my eyes. Fey and beast mingled together so much that it was hard to tell one from the other. The smell of death mixed with blood, dirt and fear, hung heavy in the air. Although the fear that I sensed around me was my own.
Ahead of me, sitting astride a huge black stallion, was my father, Herne. Instead of his usual leather kilt, he wore brown leather pants, while an antlered crown sat atop his head.
My older brother, Kit, sat next to me. The lure of the Wild Hunt bored him. I knew he had participated at least once. He had regaled me with stories that were scary enough I’d had nightmares for weeks afterwards. What was even more frightening to me, was the knowledge that fey couldn’t dream. Or have nightmares, because nightmares were the stuff of dreams. Dreams were mundane things. Human things, or so Kit had told me one night when I’d awoken him with the sound of my screams. I was not human.
Everything about me said faerie, so my ability to dream was strange.

I hope you enjoyed it and please do purchase a copy. My full story clocks in at almost 3,000 words. It will be available on Amazon on Friday, 13th July 2018.

Busy as a Bee

reading-3355230_640

Yep. I’m still around. Just haven’t written anything since Wednesday. Been just a tad busy. However, I do have a valid reason for being so busy. I’ve been writing.

Yes, I know… I can hear you saying: But don’t you write daily? I do. And for those of you who don’t know. Yes, I write everyday. I aim for 300 words. Why such a small amount? Well, I have four kids and a husband, and a house to take care of.

Plus, I have a couple of small freelance writing gigs on the side. As well as coordinating a team of book reviewers and writing author interviews on behalf of The Horror Tree.

I’m also gearing up for the release of Twisted II which is happening in July 2018. The 13th to be exact, so if you haven’t already please purchase a copy of the first installment of the series. It contains two short stories, Red and The Summer Girl, that connect to The Eldritch Series, of which I’m currently writing Book 6.

My short story, The Wild Hunt which will appear in Twisted II is also connected to my novel series.

I’d love to say that with all this work I have going on, I’ve become a little more organized, but I’m just not sure I have. Granted, I manage to somehow catch up each week. So, maybe I am becoming better organized. One can hope, I guess.

Now, if only I could get enough time to finish reading the latest book on my TBR pile, life would be all the better for it.
