Hello, October!

Sadly, being in Oz I don’t get to share autumnal images or pumpkin spiced anything with you all in the northern hemisphere. But… I do get to share in Halloween, which I’ll be sure to blog about later in the month. It’s mostly for the kids, let’s face it, as a mum of four it’s always about the kids.

In the spirit of Halloween I’ve subbed to a few Halloween inspired anthologies and while a few are pending I feel like this is the perfect time to promote Forests of Fear from Blood Song Books.

This anthology will be available for purchase on October 31st 2019. I have three stories included:

  • Wild Fae, a story about a murder loving faerie.
  • Candy Corn Wolves, a story about Halloween and werewolves.
  • Witch in the Wood, a story about what witches get up to on Halloween.
  • I’ll be sure to share links the moment I have them.
  • Curses & Cauldrons

If you haven’t preordered your copy of Curses & Cauldrons you’d better do it fast! This anthology goes LIVE in a matter of hours!

Within the pages of this anthology are eight of my drabbles. I won’t spoil it by rehashing what they’re about as I’ve done that twice already in previous blogs… BUT what I will say is if you haven’t, get your copy now! You won’t regret it!

    Something Witchy This Way Comes

    img_2272.jpg

It’s COVER REVEAL and PREORDER launch day for Blood Song Books’ debut witch anthology Curses and Cauldrons!

I’ve spoken about this anthology previously, but I’m talking about it again now, obviously, because its PRE-ORDER TIME!

Official Release Date is August 31st 2019!

I have eight tiny witchy tales featured in this anthology and I am extremely proud of each one. Drabbles can sometimes be tricky to write, given they have to be 100 words exactly. And telling eight different tales was a little challenging but I enjoyed writing each and every one.

    My stories included are:

    img_2273

    • Down the Rabbit Hole – is a story about a girl who takes poison from a witch.
    • The Keeper – is a retelling of the story of Cerridwen.
    • Mark of the Witch – is a story about a family of witches.
    • Undersea – is a story about a sea witch.
    • Excalibur – is a story about Morgan le Faye and the magic of Excalibur.
    • Harm None – is the story of a modern day witch performing a binding spell.
    • Red As Blood – is a retelling of the story of Snow White with a twist.
    • Bad Girls – is a story of three modern day witches about to be burned at the stake.

If any of the above stories capture your interest, you can preorder a copy of the anthology here! Preorder Link

I’ve been looking into more online publication opportunities of late and thought I’d bring this one to the attention of other writers just in case you hadn’t seen it yet and you’re interested in getting your words out into the world.

It’s an open submission call from Iron Faerie Publishing and they are after stories for their blog that range in length from 100 to 500 words.

I don’t know about you, but I love drabbles and flash fiction. You’re forced to think about what you’re writing in a way you may not with longer fiction and they’re quicker to write, which is a bonus, in my book given how busy I am.

They are seeking FANTASY and SPECULATIVE FICTION short stories.

    Reprints : No

    Simultaneous Submissions : No

Multiple Submissions : Authors may submit one story per week.

Publication : Online. An anthology is a possibility in the future.

Author Compensation : Exposure only at this stage.

Additional information can be found on their website.

    Eyes Open

Just a few minutes ago I received an acceptance on my drabble, “Eyes Open”. It’s being published on the Horror Tree as part of their Trembling With Fear online publication.

It marks my twentieth acceptance for 2019. I’m hoping, that with some luck I can double that by the end of the year and maybe even hit fifty acceptances by the end of the year.

No word yet on when it will appear but I can’t wait to share it with you.

    Why Writing Isn’t a Chore

Why writing isn’t a chore… and yet I have a list of things to keep me going through to the end of April. And I totally love it, despite how overwhelming it gets some days.

I spent the day organising my writing related to-do list, in between household chores and begging the Gods that it didn’t rain so the washing I had out on the line could actually have a chance to dry, whilst wishing like mad I had a dryer that worked, of course. It’s still not dry…

This is what I have so far… and I swear there’s things I’ve forgotten, so this list will likely be added to over the next few days.

Did I mention I’m trying to keep myself accountable this year? Well I am!

    • Add new words added to a story story. The word count minimum of which is a self imposed 2000, for an Iron Faerie Publishing anthology submission.
    • Add new words to a short story. The word count minimum is 7000 and my current count is 4025.
    • Edit and submit two drabbles for consideration into a Black Hare Press anthology.
    • Organise my poems. Would you believe most are stored in the notes app on my phone? Backed up of course but still.
    • Write more poetry. It should be simple but I get so caught up in my short story submissions that I forget to flex my poetry muscles.
Edit an author interview I completed for The Horror Tree, ready to send off Wednesday morning.
Edit short stories. Which short stories? I couldn’t tell you. There’s the several I’ve written in the first quarter of the year that haven’t been sent into anthologies, so I should probably start there…

What’s on your to do list? Anything exciting? My mundane chore list isn’t as exciting as my writing one, but I’ll leave you with the image that is a household of 6 and no dishwasher. Yes, there’s tears and they’re usually all mine.

    Hello, Autumn

    33026622_10156427183904439_6032754507555799040_o

Yes… it’s March 21st, which means Autumn can officially start… in the Southern Hemisphere, that is. The previous twenty-one days were just a warm up… seeings as in Oz the weather can never make up its mind. I’m really over Summer, if you can’t tell.

This post is kind of two-fold today, as there’s been quite a lot going on in the niche I carved out for myself in the writing world, as small as it is now, I’m hopeful it’s going to grow into something huge. A girl can dream, right?

organic-inkTwo days ago, I received an acceptance for my poem, Petals, that I submitted two weeks prior and kept it completely under wraps. I truly believed I sucked at poetry, because I don’t really get how to write it. Like, I’ve always felt there’s a right way and a wrong way to write poetry and its instilled in me this immense fear of getting it wrong. So, I’ve totally just steered clear of it. Yeah, so I totally jumped out of my comfort zone for this submission and its surprisingly paid off. So, that of course lead to me submitting another poem, because I hate odd numbers… suffice to say, my second poem, Darkness, will also be appearing in the Dragon Soul Press anthology, Organic Ink, Volume One. Which will be published later this year. I can’t wait!

In other news, I’ve also submitted a drabble to another online only publication. This time it’s for Black Hare Press. I’m crossing my fingers (and toes) that I hear back soon.

Finally, I’ve also done a soft launch of my Patreon, which I’ve been debating for a long while whether to launch and I decided last night to just go ahead and do it… so, if there’s any interest at all, I’d be eternally grateful. There’s three tiers at the moment but I’m hoping to find news ways to give back to anyone who champions my cause, no matter how small, when time permits. If you would like to chip in, the link is HERE.

I truly hope that the Equinox finds you well. I really do love this time of year.

    witches_by_eternal_dream_art-d6y7dk6

As I’ve stated in a previous post, several of my drabbles are being published in Blood Song Books anthology, Curses & Cauldrons. And, now that I’ve signed the contract, I decided to share a little update with you all, because I not only have the four drabbles previously mentioned, but four others as well. Bringing the total up to eight. They are listed below, in order of acceptance. They are:

    CandC-MINI

    • Down the Rabbit Hole – is a story about a girl who takes poison from a witch.
    • The Keeper – is a retelling of the story of Cerridwen.
    • Mark of the Witch (previously titled, The Witch’s Mark) – is a story about a family of witches.

In case you haven’t already guessed the theme of the anthology is witches, and I’m immensely proud of these eight little stories. Writing drabbles and keeping to the strict, 100 word only caveat, is not always easy, especially when you have to tell a story and have it make sense. I’ll be sure to keep you posted once this anthology hits shelves, I’m sure it’s going to be epic.
